Our host for the third AFMAC workshop in Nairobi, Kenya was DocuBox, an organization that has supported independent documentary filmmakers across East Africa since 2013. Held on the beautiful grounds of Shalom House, the open-air workshop sessions balanced rigor with calm and maintained a constant connection to Kenya’s renowned landscape—from the Nairobi National Park to the Ngong Hills and the Great Rift Valley.

A public screening of works by lead artists Jim Chuchu and Wanuri Kahiu was presented in partnership with the NBO Film Festival. The Nairobi workshops coincided with the festival’s 6th edition, which took place across the city from October 16–26. Since its founding in 2017, NBO has become a cultural cornerstone in East Africa, spotlighting Kenyan cinema, amplifying African voices, and connecting audiences with bold new films from across the continent and its diaspora.

A group of twelve people pose playfully on a metal climbing structure in an outdoor park. Some sit at the top, others stand or lean against the bars, and a few hang upside down or strike expressive poses. They appear joyful and energetic, surrounded by trees and greenery.
