Partner Spotlight: RAW Material Company & Fanta Sy

Our hosts for the fourth AFMAC workshop in Dakar were RAW Material Company and Fanta Sy. Founded in 2008 by curator Koyo Kouoh, RAW Material Company is a center for art, knowledge, and society — a transdisciplinary space whose programming spans curatorial practice, residencies, exhibitions, knowledge production, and artistic education through the RAW Académie. Rooted in the belief that art is a catalyst for social transformation, RAW has become an essential platform for creative and intellectual life in Dakar, across the African continent, and in dialogue with the wider world (as shown through the curatorial and facilitatory work for this year’s Venice Biennale).

Fanta Sy is a Dakar-based production company led by Mati Diop and Fabacary Assymby Coly, born from a desire to support young Senegalese and African filmmakers and help their work reach audiences worldwide. Both bring decades of experience as a key figure in Senegalese cinema. Together, they represent a new vision of 21st century-filmmaking that is both locally grounded and globally impactful.
